Around SUBARU

Forestlodge SUBARU is situated in the town of Teshikaga in eastern Hokkaido. The majority of Akan National Park is located within this town. It is area that is full beautiful nature: the tributaries of Kushiro river, Lake Mashu and Kussharo, and Iou-yama (Sulfur Mountain).

In Teshikaga area, there are many natural hot springs ("onsen") including Kawayu-onsen which means "Hot River" and Mashu-onsen. When you come to SUBARU, you can enjoy variety of natural hot springs, including our own hot spring at the lodge.

Teshikaga is also famous for its pristine water, where you can enjoy canoeing, sailing and fishing. Being the tributary of Kushiro river, which runs through the largest wetland (Kushiro-shitsugen) in Japan, it is very popular spot for keen canoeists.

Lake Mashu water has the highest transparency in Japan. However, the lake is usually covered in the bail of fog. If you are lucky enough to see it in a clear day, you will be amazed by its mystical blue water.

Climate

The yearly average temperature in Teshikaga is about 5°C, with cool comfortable summer. During the winter, between December and March, the temperature averages well below zero, however snow accumulation is relatively low, and we have many sunny days.
